Obituary of George Henry Fitzsimmons

FITZSIMMONS GEORGE HENRY Age 100 of Big Flats , NY passed away on Tuesday July 1 , 2014. George was born April 26 , 1914 in Big Flats , NY the son of the late Harry and Charlotte Syler Fitzsimmons . He married his wife, Juanita Joyce Miller Fitzsimmons , on August 30 , 1937 and she pre-deceased him on June 7 , 2010 after nearly 73 years of marriage. George was also pre-deceaased by his sisters Maude Easterbrook , Emily Fitzsimmons , and Lydia Fitzsimmons as well as his brothers Andy , Joe , Fred , Harry , and Harold Fitzsimmons and by his son-in-law John J. Ferreira. Mr. Fitzsimmons retired from Corning Glass after 45 years of dedicated service and recently received a 75 year service pin from Corning Inc. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Big Flats for over 60 years and volunteered countless hours at the church . George was also a member of The Big Flats Historical Society . He loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters and sons-in-law : Doris Ferreira of Painted Post , NY , Gail & James Taylor of Seffner , Florida , and Cynthia & Edgar J. Leisenring Jr. of Big Flats , NY ; grandchildren : John (Anita) Ferreira , Lisa Miller , Michael (Debbie) Ferreira , Meribeth Ferreira , and Hal (Lisa) Taylor ; great grandchildren : Jamie Ferreira , Heather Mulberry , Amanda Ferreira & Nate Ignatz , Jennifer Ferreira , Jacob (Ashley) Miller , J.J. Ferreira , and Sarah (Ryan) Greene ; great-great grandchildren : Christopher Mulberry , Michaela Mulberry , Anthony Ferreira , and Annaliese Ferreira ; brother and sister-in-law : Roy & Gert Fitzsimmons of Corning , NY ; several nieeces nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends including a special niece Ginny Connelly and a special nephew Richard Miller and close family friend Pam Farr. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Monday July 7 , 2014 from 11 AM to 2 PM . Mr. Fitzsimmons' Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2 PM . Mr. Fitzsimmons will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Juanita in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats , NY .
