Obituary of Gerald L. Smith

SMITH REV. GERALD LEE Age 72 of Lowman, NY passed away on Thursday September 18, 2014. Gerald was born on March 1, 1942 in Rome, NY the son of the late Myron and Alice Howard Smith. He was a Tractor Trailer Driver for the Martin Transport in Mondovi, WI. Gerald attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. He married his wife Ethelyn "Eppy" Halliday on May 1, 1965. He founded and built a Methodist Church down in the Catskill Mountain Region of NYS. He then moved to North Chemung where he became Pastor of the Breesport-North Chemung Methodist Church. He was also a Crisis Management Advocate for Chemung County Department of Social Services. Rev. Smith was pre-deceased by his great grandson Juleien Nicholas Torres on September 7, 2007 and by his brother Jay Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Ethelyn "Eppy" Halliday Smith; sons and daughters-in-law: Gerald M. and Lori Smith of Lowman, NY; David Smith of Lowman, NY; Charles and Julie Smith of Bellefonte, PA; daughters and sons-in-law: Rebecca Smith Dieterle and Daniel Dieterle of Elmira, NY; Carol Smith Meade and Ernest Meade of Owego, NY; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: William and Susan Smith of Camden, NY; Michael and Irene Smith of Cleveland, NY; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn and Wally Bialobreski of Cicero, NY; Julie and Joe Gibilaro of W.VA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at THE LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSHEADS, NY on Tuesday September 23, 2014 from 1-4 PM. Rev. Smith's Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 4PM. Family and friends are invited to The Town of Baldwin Community Center following Rev. Smith's services for a gathering and fellowship.
