BATES , JOHN F. Age 66 of Elmira , NY passed away on Wednesday October 8 , 2014 at The Bath VA Medical Center . John was born June 20 , 1948 in Penn Yan , NY the son of the late Charles and Gladys Perry Bates . He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving his country with The U.S. Army . John was a painter at Kennedy Valve in Elmira prior to his illness. Joh is survived by his son : Charles Bates & Taren Zazinski of Elmira , NY ; grandchildren Natalee and Baylee ; stepchildren ; Shelly , Richard , and Jeff ; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren ; sister : Charlene Hapeman and niece Desiree ; former wife : Lois Mattison Bates of Elmira , NY ; several sisters-in-law , brothers-in-law , nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends. Relatives are invited to attend Gravesite Services on Thursday October 16 , 2014 at Woodlawn National Cemetery 1925 Davis Street Elmira , NY at 1 PM.
