Obituary of Harry A. Swan

SWAN , HARRY A. Age 80 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Saturday October 18 , 2014 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Harry was born March 6 , 1934 in Muncie , Indiana the son of the late Earl and Shirley Reed Swan . He was a Veteran serving his country with The U.S. Army from 1956 - 1958. Harry married his wife , Phyllis J. Blauvelt Swan , on December 21 , 1957 and they would have celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on December 21 , 2014 . Harry worked for Hilliard Corporation in Elmira , NY from 1956 – 1994 and retired as an engineer . He was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads , The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297 where he was honored as Elk of The Year , Elmira Masonic Order , and The Montour Moose Club and several other service organizations . Harry was pre-deceased by his son Rodney A. Swan on January 9 , 1999 and by his sister Roberta. He loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them especially his grandchildren. Harry and Phyllis spent their winters in Florida for 19 years . Harry is survived by his loving and devoted wife Phyllis J. Blauvelt Swan ; daughters and sons-in-law : Dr. Cindy Swan Johnson & Brent Johnson of Cortland , NY and Judy & Thomas L. Corp Jr. of Horseheads , NY ; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren ; sister : Jane Crandall of Bentley Creek , PA ; brother : Mike Swan of Bentley Creek , PA ; several brothers-in-law , sisters-in-law , nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Tuesday October 21 , 2014 from 5-8PM . Mr. Swan's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 PM . The Rev. Rhonda Kouterick will officiate. Harry will be laid to rest next to his son Rod in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Swan on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at 12 Noon . The Family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Harry through donations to The Horseheads Animal Shelter 150 Wygant Road Horseheads , NY 14845
