Obituary of Robert R. Newlun
NEWLUN , ROBERT R. (Bob) of Big Flats , NY Our Beloved Husband , Dad , Grampy passed away on Sunday November 9 , 2014 at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 83. Robert was born in Chillicothe , Ohio on May 27 , 1931 the son of the late Roy and Mildred Dresbach Newlun . He attended schools in Chillichothe , Ohio and graduated from Chillichothe High School in 1949 . Bob married his high school sweetheart Norma Jean Sanders on April 7 , 1950 . They enjoyed 64 years together. Bob loved his family and was dedicated to making his community a better place to live. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife Norma Jean ; his daughter and son-in-law Linda Jean Bright & Frank Bright , granddaughters Emily J. Bright Goldman and her husband Josh Goldman and Kelly Bright all of Columbus , Ohio ; son David R. Newlun of Big Flats , NY ; brother Don (Kay) Newlun of Chillichothe , Ohio ; sister-in-law Betty Lewis and her daughter Sally Lewis of Cillichothe , Ohio ; step-sister Kay Ann Casey of CA ; several nieces, nephews , cousins , and a host of friends . He was pre-deceased by his Mother and Father and his Step-Father Oscar Seitz , his brother Dale Newlun , his sister Yvonne Newlun , step-sisters Viola Burton and Eileen Scott , and step-brother Oscar Seitz Jr. Bob was employed by J.J. Newberry's and McCrory's for 43 years retiring as District Manager . He was also The Big Flats Tax Collector for 19 years. Bob belonged to The Prince Edwin Spring Creek Masonic Lodge # 486 in Middletown , NY for over 50 years, U.C.T. , a former member and treasurer of The Eastern Star in Big Flats , and member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297 . He was a member of The Big Flats United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader and held many other positions . Bob was a former member of The Senior Notebook TV Program and member of the steering committee and Treasurer of Big Flats Community Days and Chairman of The Cake Wheel Project. He was on The Board of Directors of The Big Flats Seniors and chairman of several committees where planned 55 Driving , trips , card games , dinners , ceramics , sewing and painting classes. His dream and goal was to have a community building in Big Flats . His dream came true with the construction of The Big Flats Community Center and he was so happy with the results. "My hope was to be able to give a little bit back of all the tremendous help and opportunity that has been given to me over my lifetime . Since my father died when I was 6 years old and my mother died at a young age , I thank God for giving me the years to watch my children to grow up and become successful ." The Family will receive friends on Friday November 21 , 2014 from 1-2 PM at The Big Flats Community Center 476 Maple Street Big Flats , NY. A Memorial Service Celebrating Bob's Life will be held following calling hours with Rev. Melanie Cole-Beardsley officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery in Chillichothe , Ohio at the convenience of the family . In Lieu of flowers please consider memorials supporting The Big Flats United Methodist Church 109 Hillview Drive Big Flats , NY 14814, The American Cancer Society for Ovarian Cancer Research , or The Finger Lakes Trail Conference Inc. 6111 Visitor Center Road Mt.
