Obituary of Barbara Gilman-Ottey

GILMAN-OTTEY , BARBARA ROCKWELL Age 93 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Thursday January 29 , 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born November 16 , 1921 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late Ralph D. and Kathryn Rohrman Rockwell . She was also pre-deceased by her first husband William Hetherton , her second husband Arthur B. Gilman , and her third husband Charles J. Ottey . Barbara was pre-deceased by her son Ralph W. Gilman in 1994 , and her grandsons Michael Rumsey and Kenneth Rumsey , and by her sisters Dorothy Hill of Elmira ,NY and Jean Van Horn of Pine City , NY and her brother Ralph "Bud" Rockwell of Horseheads , NY . Barbara taught piano for many years . She loved gardening and took great pride in her flower gardens . She was also an avid painter and accomplished seamstress. Barbara was active in local politics having served as President of The Chemung County Taxpayers Association . Barbara is survived by her son Robert A. Gilman of Elmira , NY ; daughters and sons-in-law : Joyce A. Rumsey of Horseheads , NY , Judy M. & Robert Cloman of Webster , MA and Susan B. & Stephen Nagle of Elmira , NY; grandchildren : Yvonne & Jeffrey Gatto of Webster , MA , Jennifer & Aren Strom of Webster , MA , Kathryn Nagle , Ryan Nagle, and Kevin Nagle all of Elmira , NY , Michelle Gilman of Henrietta , NY , and Lisa & John Juhasz of Henrietta , NY ; daughter-in-law : Linda (Mrs. Ralph W.) Gilman of Henrietta , NY ; sister-in-law : Joan Rockwell of Horseheads , NY ; several great grandchildren , nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Friday February 6 , 2015 from 4-6 PM . Barbara's Funeral and Committal Services will be conducted at the conclusion of calling hours with Father William C. Lutz officiating . Interment in Woodlawn National Cemetery 1825 Davis Street Elmira , NY on Monday February 9 , 2015 at 11 AM
