Obituary of Joseph S. Ross

ROSS , JOSEPH S. Age 91 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Saturday September 26 , 2015. Joseph was born December 6 , 1923 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Leon S. and Louise M. Edwards Ross. He was a Veteran of World War II serving his country with The U.S. Marine Corps and was also a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Navy. Mr. Ross was a retired employee of Corning Glass Works with several years of dedicated service. Joe was a communinicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads , NY and a member of The Big Flats American Legion Post # 1612 and a former member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297 . Mr. Ross was pre-deceased by his brother Leon W. Ross on August 1 , 1951 , his father Leon S. Ross on November 1 , 1954 , and by his mother Louise M. Ross on April 23 , 1993 . He was also pre-deceased by his long-time companion Carol Connelly O'Brien on September 8 , 2001 and by his former wife Shirley Ross Lambert on April 12 , 2015. Joe loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Ross is survived by his son Carl L. Ross of Summerfield , Florida ; granddaughters : Jennifer Mills and Laura Barber both of Salisbury , N.C. ; two great grandchildren ; devoted companion : Rita Buckbee of Elmira along with her daughter Laurie Buckbee Meeker ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Friday October 16 , 2015 from 5-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 17 , 2015 at 9:30 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY . Joe will be laid to rest on Monday October 19 , 2015 in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery in Elmira , NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Ross.
