Obituary of Joan K. Vater

VATER , JOAN KEARNEY Age 87 of Honeoye Falls , NY formerly of Horseheads , NY passed away on Tuesday January 26 , 2016. Joan was born July 23 , 1928 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late James J. and Eloise Sheehe Kearney. She married her husband , A. Charles Vater Jr. , in September 1951 and he pre-deceased her on August 3 , 1981 . Joan was also pre-deceased by her daughter Karen Elizabeth Vater in 1963, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred Charles Vater Sr. and Margaret Hause Vater , her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vincent J. Vater and Mary Noonan Vater , her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Frances D. Vater Wylie and Charles A. "Chub" Wylie , Helen Vater Mann and Richard Mann . She was a former communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church and St. Charles Borromeo Church. Joan was proud of her Irish Heritage and loved celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Mrs. Vater was a retired legal secretary for Atty. James Burke in Elmira , NY . She loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Joan is survived by her loving and devoted children : Patricia Vater Rapach & Richard D. Rapach of Keuka Lake , NY and Joseph C. & Debra Vater of Sodus Point , NY ; her beloved grandchildren : Andrea Rapach and Christopher Rapach and his wife Julia Anderson ; cherished great grandchildren : Bodhi Anderson Rapach and Margot Anderson Rapach ; sister and brother-in-law : Patricia & Dr. Patrick E. Kelley of Horseheads , NY ; sister-in-law: Jean (Mrs. Vincent) Vater of Pittsford , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY on Saturday January 30 , 2016 at 10 AM . Joan will be laid to rest in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery next to her beloved husband Chuck and their daughter Karen Elizabeth.
