Obituary of Ronald Eugene Varnum

VARNUM , RONALD EUGENE Age 86 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Saturday May 21 , 2016 . Ron was born April 7 , 1930 in New Castle , PA the son of the late Willard Francis Varnum and Florence Staup Varnum . He received his Bachelor's Degree from Grove City College and received his Master's Degree in Education Administration from SUNY Plattsburgh and had not quite completed his Doctoral Thesis for his P.H.D. Ron was a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. ARMY. Mr. Varnum married his wife , Nancy J. Moon Varnum , on June 9 , 1953 and they would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on June 9 , 2016 . Ron was a Deacon and Elder of The North Presbyterian Church as well as a Vocalist at North Presbyterian Church . He was the choir Director at Avion Palms in Florida . He belonged to The Masonic Lodge F.&A.M of Grove City , PA , The Scottish Rite Consistory , and The Syria Shrine. Ron was also a member and Past President of The Horseheads Rotary Club as well as The Avion Travelcade Club. Mr. Varnum retired as Director of Telecommunications at STC BOCES in Horseheads , NY . Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife Nancy J. Varnum ; son and daughter-in-law : Douglas and Mary Varnum of Kirkville, NY ; daughters and sons-in-law : Barbara and Gary Giebler of Phoenixville , PA and Sharon and Paul Ferguson of Seattle , WA; 7 granddaughters and 1 grandson ; 2 great-great granddaughters ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Thursday May 26 , 2016 from 5-8 PM . Officers and Members of Horseheads Old Oak Lodge # 364 will meet on Thursday May 26 , 2016 at 7:30 PM at Lynch's Funeral Home to conduct a memorial service for our departed brother , Ronald E. Varnum . Mr. Varnum's Funeral Services will be held at The North Presbyterian Church 921 College Avenue Elmira , NY on Friday May 27 , 2016 at 1 PM . Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Varnum outside the church following his services. Ron will be laid to rest next to his parents in Slippery Rock Cemetery in Slippery Rock , PA on Saturday May 28, 2016 at 11 AM.
