Obituary of Timothy L. Pierce

PIERCE TIMOTHY L. Age 65 of Horseheads , NY went home to be with our Lord after a short illness on Thursday April 4 ,2013. Tim was born on November 25 , 1947 and he was the son of the late Lee and Doris Burton Pierce of Unadilla , NY . Tim grew up in Unadilla and loved to tell stories about the fond memories he had from growing up in Unadilla . He still kept in contact with many of his Unadilla friends. Tim was proud to serve his country . He retired with the rank of First Sergeant from The U.S. Army after serving 24 years. While serving he spent 2 tours in Korea and 7 years in Europe. The last 10 years of his military career were spent in Fort Devens , MA. After his retirement from the military he moved back to New York and worked at The Holiday Inn in Oneonta and the Super 8 in Norwich. He permanently retired to Horseheads , NY in 2010. He psent the next few years volunteering his time to help others. His passion was making people smile while volunteering many hours at Eldridge Park in Elmira . A horse on the Carousel ride at the park will be memorialized with his name in honor of his selfless acts of volunteerism . In 2011 he received The Elsie Calhoun Award as Volunteer of The year . Two times he received The Ray Novick Award for volunteering the most hours per year to The American Red Cross Blood Services. He touched many lives with his friendly personality and his ability to talk to first time acquaintances like they were old friends . Tim is survived by his two sons Sean (Jill) Pierce of Springfield , Ohio and Christopher (Nicole) Pierce of Sidney , NY and by his daughter Sarah (Jason) Morton of Pinehurst , NC. Tim will be missed by his eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters Loretta (Al) Hotchkin of Arizona and Joyce (Vernon) Sisson of Buffalo , NY . Tim is also survived by four nieces and nephews plus many great nieces and great nephews. There will be a Memorial Gravesite Service at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla , NY on Saturday June 15 , 2013 at a time to be announced where Full Military Honors will be accorded Timothy L. Pierce First Sergeant , Retired US Army . A Celebration of his Life will follow at a placed to be announced. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY.
