Obituary of Herman C. Brown

BROWN , HERMAN C. JR. age 75 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Tuesday March 14 , 2017. Herm was born October 1 , 1941 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Herman C. and Dora Besley Brown . He married his wife , Judith E. Scaife Brown , on April 3 , 1965 and they would have celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary on April 3 , 2017 . Herm was a retired BCI Investigator with The New York State Police in Horseheads , NY . He also worked as an Investigator for John Trice and The Chemung County District Attorney's Office . Herm was a member of The Watkins Glen Elks Lodge # 1546 , The Horseheads American Legion Post # 442 , The Montour Moose Lodge # 426 , and The Mechanic's Club in Montour Falls , NY . He received his Bachelor's Degree from Elmira College . Herm enjoyed hunting , fishing , gardening , and his flowers as well as other outdoor activities . He loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren . Herm is survived by his loving and devoted wife Judith E. Scaife Brown ; daughters and son-in-law : Brenda & Dennis Bennett of Marion , NY and Michelle Ballings and John L. Sullivan of Horseheads , NY ; son; Herman C. Brown III and Chandra Flahive of Horseheads , NY ; grandchildren : Joshua & Elizabeth Guild , Brandon Ballings , Samantha Ballings , Lindsay Guild , and Emily Holly ; great grandchildren : Jaidyn , Kylie , Noah , Braylee , Gianna , and Bella ; mother-in-law : Mildred Scaife of Horseheads , NY ; sister and brother-in-law : Helen & Larry McNeal of Waverly , NY ; sister-in-law : Maureen Grover of Lockwood , NY ; brother-in-law : Don Cole of Trumansburg , NY ; several aunts , uncles , nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Friday March 17 , 2017 from 5-8 PM . Mr. Brown's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday March 18 , 2017 at 11 AM . Herm will be laid to rest in Hicks Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded to Mr. Brown. The Family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Herm through memorials to a charity of one's choice.
