Obituary of A. Catherine Kowalski

KOWALSKI CATHERINE JANSEN Age 89 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Friday April 26 , 2013 . Kay was born August 7 , 1923 in Elmira , NY the daughter of the late Marion D. and Ida Mae Stansfield Jansen . She married her husband Stanley Kowalski and he pre-deceased her on September 22 , 1985 . Kay was also pre-deceased by her son David P. of Greenwich , CT who passed away on Friday February 8 , 2013 as the result of injuries he suffered in a motor vehicle accident . David was a graduate of Horseheads High School Class of 1966 and Corning Community College . David served his country with The U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and attended West Point Military Academy . Kay was pre-deceased by her brothers Richard "Dick" Jansen , William A. "Zip" Jansen , Ernest R. Jansen , and by his sister Marjorie Dickens. Mrs. Kowalski worked in the cafeteria for The Horseheads Central School District until her retirement . She was a long-time member of The Horseheads Fire Department Auxiliary . Kay was a devout communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads. Catherine loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Kowalsi is survived by her daughter and son-in-law : Patricia & Alan Hammond of Cheektowaga , NY ; her grandchildren : Jason & Laura Hammond , Andrew & Beth hammond , and Melissa & Nathan Harper ; great grandchildren : Alexander , Colton , Grace , Madison , Ophelia , Riley , and Zachary ; sisters-in-law : Marian ( Mrs. Charles ) Reynolds , Margaret ( Mrs. Walter) Kowalski , Mary (Mrs. Ernest) Jansen , Anne ( Mrs. Richard Jansen) Nowlan all of Horseheads , NY ; several nieces , nephews ,grand nieces , grand nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends including Marian Kreisler of Bradenton , Florida . Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Tuesday April 30 , 2013 from 4-7 PM . Mrs. Kowalski's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 1 , 2013 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West broad Street Horseheads , NY . Kay will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Stanley in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads , NY .
