Obituary of Donna M. Scotton

DONNA LOOMIS SCOTTON Age 71, passed away at home on January 28 surrounded by loving family and friends after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Donna was born and raised in central New York, making her home in Horseheads for the past 50 years. She graduated from Homer High School in 1964 and began her secretarial career that summer. She worked briefly at Cortland County BOCES , then married Carl Scotton and moved to the Horseheads area where she served in many secretarial support roles within the legal community. Her career culminated in her service as confidential secretary to Supreme Court Judge Sam Castellino for many years. While Donna was an accomplished, respected legal secretary, the true source of her love and pride was her family. Her daughters, Laurie and Teresa, grandchildren Carlyn, Zack, Skylar and Connor and great grandchild Levi were her reason for "being". She devoted her life to providing her family with a loving home and never-ending support throughout her life. Whether it was giving them a ride to school or work, attending a dance recital or sporting event or proudly standing next to them at graduation or prom night, as a mother and grandmother, Donna was always there. Her most important legacy now continues in the productive, happy lives of the family whom she raised and adored. She is survived by daughters Teresa Nash and Laurie Scotton; grandchildren Carlyn Nash, Zechariah Nash, Skylar Downs and Connor Godwin, a great grandchild Levi Kent all of Horseheads; a sister, Sylvia Hall (Lynn Buddenhagen) of Moravia; sister-in-law Doris McWenie of Binghamton and sister-in-law Alice Quattro (Louie) of Florida. Also, a dear friend/caretaker, Suzanne Mockaitis and special friend Lorraine Price as well as many other beloved friends and former colleagues in the community. In keeping with Donna's wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal funeral service. A simple memorial service celebrating her life will be announced at a later time.
