Obituary of Betty Jane Bacalles

BETTY JANE BACALLES Age 89 formerly of Corning, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 14,2018 . Betty was born August 26 , 1928 in Ashland Township , Clarion County , PA the daughter of the late John W. Montgomery and Frances G. Thornton Montgomery. She graduated from Addison High School in 1946 and received her Nursing Degree from Arnot Ogden School of Nursing in Elmira , NY . Betty married her husband , Louis A. Bacalles , and he pre-deceased her in 1993 . She was also pre-deceased by her brothers Ronald, Robert , Edward , and Jack Montgomery as well as her sister Frances Lehman. Betty was also pre-deceased by her son-in-law Smith B. "Smitty" Paulison on July 1 , 2016. Betty Jane is survived by her daughter Joanne B. Paulison ; son and daughter-in-law : Anthony & Mary Bacalles ; grandchildren : Sara Paulison , Katie Paulison-Harris & Bobby Harris ; Lee & Lindsay Bacalles , and special nephew Jeff Pitts along with nieces Georgia Douda , Christina Bacalles , and numerous other nieces and nephews . Betty was well known in Corning . She worked along with her husband Louis and brother-in-law Peter Bacalles for more than twenty years in the family business , Baccales' Soda Bar on Market Street . When they sold the business she went on to work at The Corning Flower Shop , then spent about ten years working for Ames Department Store. When Betty finally retired she continued to volunteer at The Corning Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of The Episcopal Church of Corning and enjoyed many of their activities including singing in the choir. Our mother was such an easy person to get along with . She always saw the positive in everyone she met. Her grandchildren loved her creative storytelling. Betty spent the last five years at Elcor Nursing Home where she received loving and compassionate care from her many nurses and aides. The Family would like to give special thanks to Denise , Holly , Claire , Terry , Chelsea , Alicia , Bree , Janna , Mickie , Katy , Bocky , and all the staff at Colonial Ridge that provided such loving care. There will be no prior calling hours . Betty will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Louis in Coopers Chapel Knoll Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
