My sympathies to the Nicholas family which has an endearing connection to mine through Daniel Senior's late son, Danny.
In November 1987 my two-month-old son was in Mercy Hospital, Watertown, for life-saving abdominal surgery. I was working at the Times and my husband was stationed at Fort Drum and neither of us could be at the hospital many daytime hours. When I visited our son one day, the nurses told us that Danny, who was there due to his diabetes, was looking in on my son like he was his baby brother. I met Danny and took a lovely photo of Danny, my son, Dave, and me. I shared this story with Danny's mom when I read of Danny's passing. Hopefully the Nicholas family will know how grateful I was for Danny's caring and how his actions reflected on the Nicholas family.
