Obituary of Shirley M. Mitchell

Shirley Marie Mitchell Age 94 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday February 3, 2021. Shirley was born on September 24, 1926 in Syracuse, NY to David Martin Brann and Elsie Marie Salmonsen Brann. Shirley grew up in the Syracuse Valley where she attended Onondaga Valley Academy. It was there that she met, fell in love with and later married her childhood sweetheart, Vincent Clancy Mitchell in 1945 at the young age of 18. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her adoring brother James (LaVone) Brann, and loving husband Vincent of 61 years after passing away on September 22, 2006. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother to three children: Kathleen Geary, Tim (Pat) Mitchell, and Colleen Mitchell. Shirley loved life and her family. She is survived by her five loving grandchildren: Katie (Ryan) Hastrich, Meghan (David) Levi, Adam (Christina) Regula, Charlotte (Jon) Whitefield, and Jen Mitchell; great grandchildren: Jack Mitchell, Emma, Vinnie, Jacob, Eli, Ali, and a new addition arriving in May, along with her nieces and nephew: Ken (Diane) Brann, Bonnie (John) Barnett, and Terri (Ron) FitzGerald, and close friends, Dorothy, Andy and Sharron Lantz. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CareFirst at 3805 Meads Creek Road Painted Post, NY 14870, or a charity of one's choice. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Monday February 8, 2021 from 11 AM- 1PM. A prayer service with Father Matthew Jones of All Saints Parish will be held at the conclusion of calling hours with the burial immediately following in Maple Grove Cemetery.
