Obituary of Alan Jones
JONES, RICHARD ALAN ("Al"), Age 72, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Alan was born August 1, 1941 in Preston, England to his loving parents, the late Robert Stanley Jones and Sarah Elizabeth O'Donnell Jones. Mr. Jones was also pre-deceased by his sister, Irene Jovanelli and by his brother, Stanley Jones. "Al" Jones was a Veteran who served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married his wife, Jean E. Wilber Jones, on November 19, 1960 and they recently celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary. Al was a computer systems analyst at Corning Inc. and he retired from Computer Associates of Long Island, NY. Al loved his family and friends and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. He also enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends and was one of very few people who could play a round of golf with just an eight iron and a putter! Al's strong faith, love of life and great sense of humor drew people to him throughout his lifetime. He always had a joke or "tall tale" up his sleeve to make people laugh and lift their spirits. He cared deeply about people and was always there to lend a hand. Al was a very special person and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Al is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Jean E. Jones; daughters and sons-in-law: Jennifer & Coryndon Luxmoore of Providence, RI, Jessica Watts of Horseheads, NY, and Jaclyn & Adam Schouten of Rock Stream, NY; granddaughters: Samantha and Alyssa Watts; brother and sister-in-law: Jack & Barbara Jones of Horseheads, NY; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, (including close relatives in England), as well as many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Al's Life on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, located at 1034 West Broad Street, Horseheads, NY. The Rev. Rhonda Kouterick will officiate. Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Jones at the Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY following his Memorial Service. Arrangements are entrusted to the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME, 318 WEST BROAD STREET, HORSEHEADS, NY.
