Obituary of Clair "Butch" William Lindsey
Clair William "Butch" Lindsey Age 62 of Horseheads, NY passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday October 1, 2021. Butch was born on March 12, 1959 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to parents Henry Jack Pattengill and Joan Sturgeon. He was athletic, energetic and had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age, delivering newspapers, mowing lawns, and shoveling sidewalks and driveways. He was outgoing and made friends easily. He loved working on cars with his brothers and they considered themselves "gear heads". His hobbies included basketball, pool, and foosball. His first "real" job was cleaning Zenk's Tavern in Poplar Grove, IL. He worked many years at Camcar in Belvidere, IL before becoming a proud U.S. Marine. Butch retired after 21 years with the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant (Master EOD). He was pre-deceased by his parents: Henry Jack and Joan Sturgeon Pattengill; grandparents: Minnie and William Huffman, Bud and Lorraine Sturgeon, and Clair Bishop; Aunt Jacki Morelock; Uncle Ed Forner; and Mother-in-law: Marie Whirt Sherwood. He is survived by his wife Joanne M. Ripley; daughters: Christine Lindsey of Detroit, MI and Justine Lindsey of Fruitport, MI; son Joshua (Nicolette) Lindsey; step-children: Tami (Tom) Mallare ; Tonia (Rick) Getter and Carlyle Ripley III; brothers: Roger (Beth) Lindsey of White Cloud, MI; Carl (Patty) Lindsey of Las Vegas, NV; and Shawn Fosdal of NY; sisters: Shirley (Dale) Boneschans Jr. of Belvidere, IL; June (Rusty) Bell of Missourie; Marie Everett of Mayetta, KS; and Terry (Brad) Campshure of Polo, IL; several grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Anita (Mike) Hesser of Horseheads, NY; Sandy (Harry) VanHorn of Watkins Glen, NY; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Butch was a member of the Horseheads American Legion, Horseheads Moose Club. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Thursday October 7, 2021 from 1 to 3 PM. Funeral Services will begin at 3PM with the Pastor Jeremy Cranmer Officiating. Everyone is invited to the Horseheads American Legion Immediately following the Service for a Luncheon to Celebrate Butch's Life. Interment in Woodlawn National Cemetery at the convenience of the family where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Lindsey. In Lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Butch through donations to the Horseheads American Legion, SPCA, or Toys for Tots.
