Obituary of Durland H. Griswold

Durland H. Griswold Sr. Age 88 of Erin, NY passed away on Monday February 14, 2022. Durland was born March 21, 1933 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Elden and Faye Walker Griswold. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Elizabeth Claire Griswold and she pre-deceased him in 1991. Durland was also pre-deceased by his son Durland H. Griswold Jr. on April 27, 2016 and by his special companion Joan Green in 2012. He was an Electrolux Vacuum Salesman when he lived in Connecticut and moved to Erin and retired as a Bus Driver for The Horseheads Central School System. He passed on his love of fishing and hunting to his family and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his smile and his kindness. He had a passion for the sport of wrestling, he was a star athlete in high school, his sons all wrestled, and he started the youth wrestling program in Brookfield CT. He could not have been prouder when his grandson Cody became the head wrestling coach at Elmira College, and it was one of his greatest joys to watch their matches on a livestream. Durland is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Salley Griswold of Elmira, NY; Danny and Kendra Griswold of Horseheads, NY; and Douglas and Heather Griswold of Erin, NY. He adored his multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, his dog Gunner and his cat Sparky and he treasured the time he spent with them. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to Honor Durland's Life on Thursday February 24, 2022 at Journey Center Church 116 Breesport Road in Horseheads, NY at 5:30 PM.
