Obituary of Matteo Joseph Princiotto

Matteo "Matty" Joseph Princiotto Age 93 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Matty was born in New York City on April 10, 1928 to Salvatore and Mary (Daidone) Princiotto. Loving husband of Olga (Futowski) Princiotto for 72 years; loving father of Mary (Ken) Rawcliffe of Corning, NY, Sal (Michelle) Princiotto of Horseheads, NY, John (Katrina) Princiotto of Horseheads, NY, Lisa (Michael) Burns of Corning, NY, and the late Joseph Princiotto of Rushville, NY; brother of Ann (Nicholas) Turturro of Fort Mill, SC and the late Charles Princiotto, Dominick Princiotto, John Princiotto and Joseph Princiotto; proud grandfather of Amy (Roy) Newton, Matthew (Lauren) Rawcliffe, Matthew (Holly) Princiotto, Katie (Andrew) Schmitt, Kalle Princiotto, Trey Princiotto, Ryan Burns and Madeline Burns; great-grandfather of Anderson, Blake, Christopher, Emilia, Madison, Nicholas, Roy and Rosalinde. Born in New York City, he grew up working at the family business, the Old Landmark Restaurant & Bar, in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan. An Army veteran of World War II, he moved his young family to Horseheads to open the Howard Johnson's Restaurant in 1955 and the Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in 1959. Matty was an active member of the Horseheads Kiwanis Club for 56 years and the Public Library Foundation of Chemung County for nearly 50 years, where he grew its endowment to help fund capital improvements at the Horseheads Free Library. Matty was happiest enjoying the outdoors and being with his wife, children and grandchildren. His favorite memories involved traveling the world with his wife Olga and spending time with family and friends on his beloved Keuka Lake. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Thursday March 24, 2022 from 4 PM to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday March 25, 2022 at 10AM at St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Princiotto.
