Obituary of Carolyn V. Stevens

STEVENS , CAROLYN V. (AUSTIN) Age 83 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Monday March 24 , 2014 after an extended illness . Carolyn was born February 19 , 1931 in the Town of Howard , NY the daughter of the late Claude and Bernice Crocker Austin . She married her husband , Lewis E. Stevens , on November 14 , 1948 and he pre-deceased her on August 14 , 1995 . Carolyn was also pre-deceased by her son James Lee Stevens on February 23 , 1953 and by her daughter Suzanne Stevens on January 20 , 1962 and by her son Gordon L. Stevens on July 1 , 2005. She was also pre-deceased by her brother Charles Austin. Carolyn was a waitress at Hilltop Inn in Elmira, NY and Curley's Chicken House for several years. She was a member of The Horseheads Lioness Club and an Ombudsman and President of the Resident's Council at Bethany for over 10 years. Carolyn loved her family and friends and treasured the time she spent with them. Carolyn is survived by her loving children : Robert & Marie Stevens of Montour Falls , NY and Scott Stevens & fiance Sue Laughlin of Painted Post , NY ; daughter : Cynthia Hancock of Freeville , NY ; daughter-in-law : Carol (Mrs. Gordon) Stevens of Pine City , NY ; grandchildren ; Michelle (Steven) Chaffee , Sean Stevens and fiance Rachel Albertalli , Jennifer Stevens Coleman, Chad Stevens , Richard James Stevens , Tyler L. Stevens, Aaron Hancock, Samantha Hancock ; great grandchildren: Ethan, William, Evan, Quinlan, and Liam; sister and brother-in-law : Betsy & Alton Shaut of Albuquerque , NM ; sisters-in-law : Faris ( Mrs. Charles) Austin of TN , Dorothy Bonning of Sayre , PA , and Shirley Root of Elmira , NY , and Ruth (Mrs. Paul) Brown of Pine City , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS , NY on Thursday March 27 , 2014 from 1 - 3PM . Mrs. Stevens' Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at the conclusion of calling hours. Carolyn will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Lewis in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Elmira , NY.
