Obituary of Rex H. Drew
DREW , REX H. "Uncle Rex" Age 86 of Horseheads , NY passed away on Thursday April 10,2014 . Rex was born November 13 , 1927 in Charleston ,PA the son of the late Verne Delos Drew and Alma Meyers Drew. He was a Veteran of World War II and Korea serving his country with The U.S. Marine Corps. Rex served in Peiping , China and Guam during World War II and was a member of The China Marines . He also served in Cuba during The Korean War . Rex was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers Raymond , Jack , and Neil Drew , and by his sisters Jean , Kathleen , and Beth. Rex married his wife , Phyllis L. Strope Drew , on July 8, 1967 and they would have celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary on July 8 , 2014. He was a retired carpenter with Carpenters Union Local # 277 in Horseheads , NY. Rex was a member of Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297, Past Exalted Ruler 1975-1976 , State Vice President 1982-1983 , and Elk of The Year 1989-1990. He served as Youth Committee Chairman at The Elks Lodge in addition to several other committees . He served on The Town of Veteran Zoning Board of Appeals. Uncle Rex enjoyed hunting , golf , bowling , vegetable gardening , and bird watching out his back window . Rex loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Rex is survived by his loving and devoted wife Phyllis L. Strope Drew ; sons and daughters-in-law : Gary & Brenda Drew of Horseheads, NY , Mark & Cindy Ackley of Horseheads , NY and Francis " Skip"& Germaine Ackley of Lowndesboro , Alabama ; daughter and son-in-law : Pleasant & Clarence Norris of Leesburg , Florida ; grandchildren : Ryan & Tonya Ackley of Bradford , Pa , Bethany Ackley and fianc Anthony McNeilly of Elmira Heights , NY , Megan Ackley of Lowndesboro, Alabama , Hunter Drew of Horseheads , NY , and Misty Henline of Westminster, MD ; sister-in-law : Jeanie Smith of Smithboro , NY ; brother-in-law : Eugene Strope of Binghamton , NY ; several nieces , nephews , cousins , and a host of caring friends . Relative and friends are invited to attend Rex's Gravesite Funeral Services on Tuesday April 15 , 2014 at 3 PM at Woodlawn National Cemetery 1825 Davis Street Elmira , NY .
