Obituary of James Richard Ormiston

James (Jim) R. Ormiston age 90 of Horseheads, NY passed peacefully with family by his side on January 13, 2023. He was born on January 17, 1932 in Potsdam, NY the son of the late James and Mary Kavanaugh Ormiston. In addition to his parents , Jim is pre-deceased by his first wife Mary and his sons James Henry Ormiston and Brian E. Kasonic. Jim proudly served in The United States Navy during The Korean War before completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Syracuse University and Master's Degree at the University of Rochester. He had a successful 35-year career with Xerox Corporation in Rochester, NY. Jim served on the Big Flats, NY Planning Board for 23 years and was a member of the Big Flats Lions Club. Jim was a self-taught wine connoisseur and developed a loyal following of wine enthusiasts during his 22 years as a wine educator with Standing Stone Vinyards on Seneca Lake. Jim is survived by his wife Ann Kasonic Ormiston ; his daughters : Kimberly Ormiston, Laurie (Kevin) Dunlop, and Sue Ormiston. Jim was blessed with five grandchildren Lindsay (Todd) Piccola, Danielle (Brendan) McGlynn, Ryan Ormiston, Angus Dunlop and Annie Dunlop, and three great grandchildren Tanner, Kennedy, and Paxton Piccola ; sister : Dona (Mrs. Thomas J.) Cincebox and several brothers-in-law , sisters-in-law , nieces , nephews , and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads , NY on Wednesday January 18,2023 from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday January 19, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Mary Our Mother Catholic Church in Horseheads , NY. Jim will be laid to rest in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira , NY where Full Military Honors Will be accorded Mr. Ormiston.
