Raymond F. Sullivan Raymond F. Sullivan, Age 79 of Horseheads, New York passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023. He was born on July 10, 1944, in Sayre, Pennsylvania and grew up on his family's dairy farm in Towanda, Pennsylvania. He was the second oldest of five boys to the late Francis and Mary McCarthy Sullivan. Ray was a graduate of Towanda High School in the Class of 1962 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1966 through 1968. After his service, Ray began working as an accountant with American LaFrance in Elmira where he worked for over twelve years. He then spent the remainder of his career as an accountant with Hardinge, Inc. until his retirement in 2009. Ray was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY, and was a member of the Horseheads American Legion Post 442, the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Elmira, NY, and the Towanda Gun Club. Ray loved sports, especially Penn State Football, the New York Mets, the New York Giants, the Elmira Pioneers, and was an avid supporter of local sports teams. He was a fixture at The Diner in Horseheads where he had many close friends, and will be remembered for his infectious laugh, and warm personality. Ray married Shirley R. Kent Sullivan on January 4, 1997, and during their marriage, they enjoyed traveling and having their large family home together. Ray was by Shirley's side as she battled cancer until she pre-deceased him on November 17, 2010. He was also pre-deceased by his eldest brother, James L. Sullivan, youngest brother Thomas Sullivan, and grandson Daniel Hamilton. Ray loved his family and friends and treasured the time that he spent with them. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Jeffrey Gray of Horseheads, NY, son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Courtney Sullivan of Dunedin, Florida, and daughters and son-in-law Alana (Hendrickson) Sattamini, Debbie (Hendrickson) McCormick and Kim (Davis) and David Freson, all of Manlius, New York. Ray was known as "Grandpa Ray" to and is survived by his grandchildren Kyle (Maggie) Harter, Skylar Hall, Kayla Marie Sullivan, Emma Shea Sullivan, Jaco Sattamini, Leo Sattamini, Jodi Hamilton, James McCormick, Michael Freson, Katie Freson, and great-grandchildren Jaden Williams and Avery McCormick. Ray is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law John and Christine Sullivan of Towanda, PA, brother Walter Sullivan of Lansdale, PA, and cousins, who were like sisters, Kathy Barrett of Athens, PA and Mary Alice Sullivan of Towanda, PA. Ray had a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and a host of caring friends, including Sharon. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET, HORSEHEADS, NY, on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 5:30 P.M. through 7:30 P.M. The Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 5:45 P.M. at the Lynch Funeral Home to conduct a Memorial Service for their departed brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY 14904 with the Rev. Scott M. Kubinski Officiating. Ray will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Shirley in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery in Horseheads, NY where Full Military Honors will be Accorded.
