Obituary of William T. Hornsby Jr.

WILLIAM T. HORNSBY JR. "Bankin" Age 86 of Horseheads, formerly of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was born in Elmira on June 23, 1931, the son of the late William T. and Pearl (Carpenter) Hornsby. Mr. Hornsby was a Veteran of the Korean War serving our country with the U.S. Navy attached to the Marines. He was the Vice President of the Binghamton Savings Bank formerly Columbia Banking / Chemung Savings and Loan Assoc. in Elmira, dedicating more than 38 years in "Bankin"g. Post retirement, he served as the Tax Collector for the Elmira City School District and for Burns Security at Toshiba in Horseheads. Bill was a former member of the Horseheads Legion and a 32nd Degree Member of the Mason Lodge #364. He loved Marilyn Monroe, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He treasured the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Hornsby was pre-deceased by his daughter Josie Pearl Hornsby, his son William D. Hornsby; his granddaughter, Tammi Hornsby, and grandson T. J. Hornsby; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeannette and Harold Mapes, and Vera Rose and Delbert Hoobler. William is survived by his daughter-in-law: Deborah T. Hornsby of Horseheads; grandchildren: Jennifer C. Hornsby and fiancé Steven Cole, Horseheads, great granddaughter McKayla Hornsby; Jessica L. and Joe Stetts of Johnson City, great-grandchildren Alexis, Tyler and Connor Stetts; Bill and Brittany Hornsby; great grandchildren; Gavin, Olivia and Greyson Hornsby: Jason and Danielle Hornsby; great-grandchildren Henry Smith, Logan, Mason and Ella Hornsby, Billie Rae Hornsby and Makenna Hornsby; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Saturday February 3, 2018 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers those wishing may remember William through donations to the Horseheads Free Library-Book Memorial.
